Numly is committed to protecting the privacy of all users, including students, teachers, and school administrators. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and how we keep it safe.
1. Data We Collect
We collect the following information when you use Numly:
- Account information: Full name, email address, role (student/teacher), and school affiliation
- Usage data: Questions answered, accuracy rates, module progress, mastery check results, and time spent on activities
- Class data: Class memberships, assignments, and lesson plans created by teachers
- Technical data: Browser type, device type, and IP address (for security and analytics)
2. How We Use Your Data
We use collected data to:
- Provide and personalise the learning experience
- Track student progress and generate analytics for teachers and school administrators
- Improve our modules, questions, and platform features
- Communicate important updates about the service
- Maintain platform security and prevent abuse
We do not use student data for advertising or marketing purposes.
3. Data Storage
All data is stored securely using Supabase, hosted in Australia. We use industry-standard encryption for data in transit (TLS) and at rest. Access to the database is restricted to authorised personnel only.
4. Data Sharing
We share your data only in the following circumstances:
- Teachers and school administrators: Teachers can view progress data for students in their classes. School administrators may access aggregate data for their institution.
- Service providers: We use trusted third-party services (Supabase for hosting, Google Fonts for typography) that may process data on our behalf, subject to strict data processing agreements.
- Legal requirements: We may disclose data if required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users.
We do not sell personal data to third parties.
5. Children's Data
Numly is designed for use in schools by students in Years 7 to 12. We collect only the minimum data necessary to provide the educational service. Student accounts are typically created with the knowledge and consent of a parent, guardian, or school. Parents and guardians may request access to their child's data or request deletion by contacting us.
6. Cookies
Numly uses essential cookies and local storage to maintain your session, remember your preferences (such as dark mode and curriculum selection), and store module progress locally. We do not use third-party tracking or advertising cookies.
7. Data Retention
We retain account and progress data for as long as your account is active. If you close your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or audit purposes. Anonymised, aggregate data may be retained for platform improvement.
8. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data
- Export your data in a portable format
